Made fresh from our very own NZ Corn masa (dough).

A pack of 24 small (9cm in diameter) fresh NZ corn tortillas to make your own taquitos (street food style), quesadillitas or to embark in any other tortilla adventure.

Do not underestimate their size, their smaller size allows you to try many different taco fillings, also these tortillas tend to be lighter and handle better.

Keep your fresh tortillas refrigerated (see best before date on the back label). Not planning to eat them this week? You can always freeze them (up to 3 months) and use as you need.

If your tortillas are vacuum packed, make sure you re-stack them one by one before putting in a zip bag or air tight container in the freezer (no need for separation layer, just re-stack them).

If your tortillas are in a zip bag (i.e. you bought them from us at the market) you can put them as they are straight into the freezer.

Heating

Pan, Skillet or BBQ hot plate (Comal)

  1. Heat dry (no oil) over high-ish heat.
  2. Warm each tortilla for about 10-15 seconds per side until soft and floppy, or for longer if you prefer them toasted and crispy.

See pro tips below

----------------------------------------

Microwave for 30–60 seconds depending on quantity and the power of your microwave.

  1. Best for speed, but try not to over heat them for a soft tortilla.

Pro Tips
• If not serving immediately wrap heated tortillas in a clean slightly damp tea towel or in a tortilla cozy to retain heat and moisture.
• If tortillas are dry or cracking, wet them under the tap before reheating.

These tortillas contain NZ corn (Nixtamalised) and a pinch of salt, nothing too complicated. The cooking of the corn known as Nixtamalisation uses water and a small amount of food grade hydrated lime to break own the grain and make it more digestible and nutritious.
